Our Cornerstone

At the heart of this Advent message is a searching question: Is Jesus truly the cornerstone of our lives, or merely an addition to a life we still control? Drawing from 1 Peter 2:4–8, we see that Christ cannot be supplemental—He must be essential. In ancient building, the cornerstone determined the alignment of the entire structure. Likewise, when we come to Christ by faith, we become living stones, built together around Him as Lord. There are only two responses: Jesus is either our foundation or our stumbling stone. The gospel offends because it declares we cannot save ourselves—yet it is also our only hope. As we celebrate Christmas, we must ask: Do we truly know Jesus, or only know about Him? Is He our Lord, or just a comforting idea?
